Kidney HeartPrint

March 20, 2007

There is Good News Everywhere.

Here's a beautiful "HeartPrint" from one friend to another.

Ron Springs and Everson Walls will always share a bond forged over their years as teammates on the Dallas Cowboys. That's nothing compared to their newest link -- the kidney Walls donated to Springs.

More than teammates

Springs and Walls were recovering at Medical City Hospital on Thursday, a day after becoming the first former U.S. professional athletes to undergo an organ transplant.

"That's brotherly love," Springs told The Associated Press in December. "It's something you can't explain, but something that I will always think about every day for the rest of my life."

The former football stars and their doctors are scheduled to hold a news conference Friday. The players hope they can inspire others to become organ donors by sharing their story.

The only other known transplants involving former pro athletes as donors include Greg Ostertag giving a kidney to his sister in 2002 when he was playing for the Utah Jazz, and basketball Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson donating a kidney to his daughter in 1997. Several pro athletes have received an organ, with basketball players Alonzo Mourning and Sean Elliott returning to play in the NBA following their ordeals.

Springs, 50, has suffered from diabetes for 16 years and has been on the national transplant waiting list since 2004. The disease has led to the amputation of his right foot and the big and middle toes on his left foot, and caused his hands to curl into knots. He also was forced into a wheelchair and needed dialysis three times a week.

Providing his body accepts Walls' kidney, Springs will no longer need dialysis and can expect his hands to regain their normal form. He also should again be able to walk on his own.

"It's like getting a new battery in a car," Springs said in December. "I'll be able to be back to basically almost 100 percent normal."

Walls, 47, volunteered to be tested after things fell through with two of Springs' relatives who were perfect matches.

"I said, 'Well, look, I know my blood type is the same as his. Why not give it a shot and see what happens?"' Walls said in December.

Springs and Walls became fast friends during Walls' first training camp with the Cowboys. They played together only four years (1981-84), but their close relationship continued, enhanced by their wives and children being close with each other, too.

The duo had wanted to keep the transplant quiet until it happened, but word leaked in December through Springs' oldest son, Shawn, who plays cornerback -- Walls' old position -- for the Washington Redskins.

Ron Springs joined the Cowboys in 1979 and became a starter alongside Tony Dorsett in '81, the year Walls arrived as an undrafted rookie from Grambling. Springs left in 1985, finishing his career with two seasons in Tampa Bay.

Walls led the NFL in interceptions his first two seasons and again in '85, making him the only three-time leader in NFL history. He picked off 57 passes and made the Pro Bowl four times over his 14-year career, which included stints with the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns.

Seeing Prayers

March 20, 2007

I recently attended a beautiful life graduation (some people call it a funeral) and heard the most amazing story.

They read a letter, written sometime earlier, from the young lady who had passed away.

She stated:

"During one of my stays in the hospital.....
(when she was extremely sick and passing between this life and the next)
....I was taken up above and I could SEE the prayers that were being offered on earth for me
and I saw them rise up to the heavens.

I saw prayers going up from:

• Fresno, California (son lives there)
• Utah (family lives there)
• Mississippi (another son was living there)

But the really interesting thing was that I saw prayers going up from:
• Samoa

The only strange part of that is that I don't know anyone from Samoa!

However, a couple weeks later, a family friend stopped to see me and told me that he had been
thinking and praying for me and had wanted to stop by earlier but he had been out of town......

in Samoa"

Dennis & Ernie Banks 1962

March 20, 2007

HeartPrint Feature Question

? What is something nice that has happened to you in your life?
_______________________________________________________

In 1962 a young teenage Dennis was able to attend a Los Angelos Dodgers baseball game vs. the Chicago Cubs.

It was a special game for him because his cousin, Kenny Hubbs was playing second base for the Cubs.

Not only did he get to attend the game but he also got to go into the Cubs dugout to meet the players.

Dennis has the lasting impression of:

• Kenny being so generous to him

• being treated like royalty and family by the players especially
Ernie Banks (future Hall of Famer) who was so kind, gentle, and loving.
Dennis was blown away by Ernie's generousity.
Ernie could have been puffed up but he was very humble and so caring.
Ernie truly knew that it is nice to be important but more important to be nice.

**Ernie hit 512 home runs in his career, but on that day in California,
he made a lasting "HeartPrint" Home Run on Dennis' heart.

Yes, we would all like to be super heroes and save the world.
Ernie showed how it can be done with one person's world.

"Humans leave footprints, angels leave heartprints by performing open heart service"

___________________________________________________

Note 1: This game was especially near and dear to Dennis because 2 years later Kenny Hubbs was in a plane crash in Utah.
Of course, Kenny has been an angel in the heavenly outfield for the past 42 years.

Note 2: Ernie Banks is regarded as one of the most popular baseball players in Chicago sports history.

He was a constant promoter of the Cubs and of daytime play at Wrigley Field.

His popularity and positive attitude led to the nicknames "Mr. Cub" and "Mr. Sunshine".

On August 22, 1982, his uniform number 14 became the first to be retired by the Cubs. It had already been de facto retired for nearly 9 years, not having been assigned to anyone else following Banks' retirement from the coaching ranks.

In 1977, in his first year of eligibility, Banks was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

In 1999, he ranked Number 38 on The Sporting News list of Baseball's Greatest Players, and was elected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team.

Note 3:  I am sure there are many of the current professional players who are just as generous as Ernie Banks, please let us know of your stories.

Labor of Love....38 day House

March 20, 2007

Here is a beautiful HeartPrint.....

Labor of love: Volunteers build family a home in 38 days

Deseret Morning News
MAPLETON , UTAH— Donna Curtis stepped out of the truck, gasped, then embraced the first person she found for a few moments as she wept.

When she was last in this spot in January, she said goodbye to her 600-square-foot, turn-of-the-century home (that's 1900, not 2000). When she returned Sunday, she was greeted by a 2,400-square-foot home that looks like something out of a magazine.
About 200 neighbors and well-wishers lined the driveway and street outside to welcome the Curtis family to their new home, which was built over 38 days solely on donations from the community. Some of those attending had been in the house until 1 a.m. that morning to hang decorations and provide all the finishing touches to turn the new house into a home.
"We had a hard time getting in here with everyone out there," Curtis said after a brief tour of the home. "It's all so overwhelming."
Everyone involved with the project said no one was more deserving that Curtis. After losing her husband at a young age, Curtis raised her five children alone in that small house, in which she herself had grown up. She lost one daughter when she was just 12 years old and now raises two of her grandchildren by working in the shipping and receiving department at Dillard's in Provo, Utah.
Still, it was difficult for Curtis to accept the offer to build her a new home. When members of the Mapleton 18th Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints first approached her with the idea, she refused.
"That's just me," she said. "I do it on my own; I do what I can with what I've got."
Bishop Stewart Hamilton, who came up with the idea and was involved in the project at every step, reassured Curtis when he welcomed her home.
"I know your first thought is, 'I'm not deserving of this and there are others who would be more deserving,' but Donna, look around you," he said.

"We're so thankful to you for giving us the opportunity to serve you. A lot of love went into this home.  "Building the home in 38 days was a tall order for project manager Chris Shurian, owner of Classic Construction. Classic donated materials and labor to build the home and recruited subcontractors to donate their time as well. Shurian said he's never seen a project like this one.
"It was very hard," Shurian said. "It's hard enough to get everyone to show up when you're doing this in six months, and we were trying to do this in 30 days."
Building that house in the given time frame required a series of minor miracles, many of which happened Saturday on the final day of construction, when people showed up with furniture, clothing and food to stock the house.
"The Curtis family has all of their stuff in a storage shed, but with everything that's in the house now, they could move in and live in the house without ever opening that storage shed again," Shurian said.  Everything in the house is new except for one item — the framed case that holds the baseball uniform of the daughter Curtis lost. Curtis wept when she saw the case in her new bedroom, and she wasn't the only one.

"It's all so overwhelming," Hamilton said. "But when I went in there and saw the uniform, I just lost it."
Decorators left their mark on the house with a photo collage along the stairwell that documents the home's construction. Above it, they painted "A house is built with boards and beams; A home is built with love and dreams."

Go Fish and "The Game"

March 20, 2007

It was a Tuesday morning (8am...we open at 9am)

and I was in my office, when I heard a loud knock on the front door.

There was my good friend Brent, who was very excited.

Here was our conversation:

Brent: "Did you see "The GAME".....You did didn't you?
It was so exciting!  How about that "Hook and Ladder"
How about that Statue of Liberty?!!!
Do you believe they went for two?
            You saw it.....right?"

Me: "Ahhh No, I didn't"

Friend: "What?  You are Mr. Football.  How could you have missed the game?  What in the world were you doing?"

Me: "Ahh, well, I was playing cards- Go Fish with my kids"

Friend:  "Wow, you missed the greatest game in history, it was so great!  You are joking me, right?"

_______________________________________________
Months have gone by and people still come out of the woodwork and ask me about that game.
I repond the same way, "No I didn't see it, I was playing Go Fish.

Later I asked my wife if the kids would ever remember me playing "Go Fish" with them the night of "The Ball Game".

She stated that they might not remember that exact night but that consistency is the most important.......

Kids remember things when they are done with consistency.

I am committed to "Going Fishing" on a consistent basis......

.......so my kids, wife, and family will remember and
know that I VALUE them more than "The Ball Game" or anything else.
Get the cards out, let's play.....Do you have any Aces.....Yes, I do...my wife, kids, and family......Go Fish.

Life is a Garden

March 20, 2007

On Sunday I took a nice drive in the HeartPrintMobile and had the most wonderiffic insight.

Life is a Garden.

I choose what I decide to plant in my garden.

I choose to plant LOVE in my garden

I choose to harvest LOVE.

I choose how I care for my garden.

I choose the fruits (results) of my garden by my actions.

I choose what remains in my garden and what is thrown out.

I choose silence in thought and speech in reference to the thorns & weeds that have been thrown out

I choose to forgive, forget and love the thorns & weeds that have been thrown out.

I choose to nourish my relationships, my values, and my integrity in my garden.

.I choose to organize beautiful thoughts, feelings, and things into my garden.

I choose to view anything less than enjoyable (in my garden) as good news with a silver lining.

I choose to dream in my garden, knowing that all things are possible.

I choose to know that there is always time to have a happy childhood in my garden.

I choose to run through the sprinkler while my garden is being watered.

I choose to breath, laugh, and say "I Love Everyone" in my garden.

I choose to spend my time with joy in my garden.

I choose to shift anything in my garden that is less than enjoyable.

I choose to remember the uplifting, fun, exciting things from a ball game I attend, no matter who wins.

I choose to visualize good news in my garden.

I choose to have things work for me in my garden.

I choose to be safe in my garden.

I choose to be confidant in my garden.

I choose to eat my the best food in my garden (tacos, little pizzas, whipped pears, cheese croquets, homemade macaroni & cheese, and ice cream)

I choose to uproot and cast out anything that is less than beneficial for my garden that has drifted over from other gardens.

I choose to look at all possiblities to assist in a given situation.

I choose to joyfully eat of the beautiful fruits of my labor.....like peas, corn, potatoes, carrots, watermelon, pears (in other words LOVE).

I choose to know more about my little spuds (my kids) than I do about sports or business.

I choose to have my wife, kids, friends and my dog Polar run through and have joy in my garden.

I choose to pray, meditate, read, hum and sing in my garden.

I choose to let my Father know the conditions I choose to have present in my garden.

I choose to be grateful for all the things currently present and those things being manifest into my garden.

I choose to recognize the hand of divinity in the growth, development, and blessings of all things in my garden.

I choose to BE in my garden.

HeartPrintMobile

March 20, 2007

"Humans Leave Footprints, Angels leave heartprints by performing "Open Heart Service"

HeartPrintMobile:

Recently we had the opportunity to outflow our beautiful family van to the junk yard.

This offered us some interesting opportunities.

One day we received a call saying that a family had a "HeartPrint" for us and we should come and pick it up.

Then I thought....

.....hold on... I give / organize HeartPrints but I don't "need" to receive a HeartPrint.

However, I went and received the HeartPrint....I am sure glad I did.

It had 4 wheels, a steering wheel, leather seats, moon roof, etc.  (basically every option known to man).

Oh and it had a little emblem on it that said.....Mercedes Benz!!!

It is such a beautiful car and we are so grateful for this HeartPrint.

Each time I drive "the HeartPrintMobile" I am amazed by their love and care.

It also reminds me to give "HeartPrints"....both in physical items and non-physical- like saying hello or smiling.

I know I am the one to make a great shift in the world....just by receiving.

I have always known that each of us is served greatly by giving......Now I know I am served greatly by receiving.

People often think of a giver as someone who gives and gives and gives but no one can be a giver unless someone is willing to receive.

? Who would have thunk it.....receiving is a major component to being a GIVER.

In recent days, I have even had the daring thought....Receiving is more important than giving.  Wow, interesting!

We are so grateful to those who are willing to receive our HeartPrints and this HeartPrintMobile assisted us in being on the other side of giving.

By receiving we have become more balanced.

It's the universal law of inflow - outflow...Dead Sea (has inflow, no outflow)  vs. Sea of Galilee (inflow & outflow)

The human body has the same system (Inflow & Outflow).

Imagine how sick a person would become if they had the attitude:  I am only going to inflow (eat / drink) ....

.....No way am I going to let go of any of my stuff ..I'm keeping it.

Inflow and Outflow assists us in Being healthy and affluent.

We are so grateful for the transportation...but more grateful for the love the family outflowed to us.

Quite often people say to us...Wow, nice car...a Mercedes!

I then pause and take the opportunity to tell the the great story of the HeartPrintMobile.

Many people have communicated to me, Wow, if they can give a Mercedes, I can give or receive something too.

I am proud to know that the "HeartPrintMobile" is really blazing a path and creating some huge ripples of love.

Celebration for Roberta

March 20, 2007

Yesterday I attended a beautiful celebration for our friend, Roberta, that some people call a funeral.

I feel the wonderful impression:

• Roberta loves so many people

• So many people love Roberta.

I so enjoyed hearing from her sister, friends and her loving son.

They love Roberta.

Roberta Loves them.

Roberta Loves life.

Roberta treated me and my family so kindly.

When Jace and I visited Roberta and George....
.....they showed how much they love that little boy and thus me.

Roberta also loved football...I saw her cheer on her favorite team at the stadium.

Now Roberts has a different view.........

.She is cheering and sending Love from the "Heavenly Grandstands" for all of us.

A Boy, A Dog, A Prayer

March 20, 2007

Several years ago we were privileged to have the most beautiful and loving dog come to be in our family.

Her name was Polar and she was a white, light filled Samoyid.

She was in our family for about 6 months when one day she disappeared.

Posters were made and distributed.

Neighborhoods was canvansed.

Still no Polar.....in fact we were bi-polar from all the looking.

By then Polar had been missing for nearly a month.

One morning our wonderful young boy, Josef, woke up and told us of dream he had about Polar.....

.....he saw Polar in the same spot she always loved to be.....Polar also came and licked his face until he woke up.

This dream spurred Josef to pray and not just a little either......he prayed with his whole, huge pure heart that Polar would return.

Josef was full of faith.....he continually told us that Polar would return.

One Sunday morning Treas went out the front door and............

.........there was Polar.

Treas let Polar in the house,

she ran downstairs

and licked Josef face until he woke up.

Treasure in your......

March 20, 2007

Last night, my family and I attended a basketball game of our 2 oldest boys and had a great time.

However, what happended as we were about to enter the building, was amazing.

I was on the phone and in the midst of my phone conversation (I mentioned the word treasure),
Jace stated to me,

"Daddy, I've got to tell you something.........

.........The treasure is in your heart!"

I later asked him why the treasure is in my heart.....

Jace replied, "Daddy that's where the love is"

I also asked Jace what was in Jesus' heart and he stated,

"Daddy it is full of LOVE, as big as the whole world.......Jesus' LOVE and my LOVE are the same...as big as the whole world."
